Das Phaedrus live 2021

Das Phaedrus were the first band I was in, we played in 1990 and 1991, and again in 1994 and 1995. After that we were blown by the four winds to various corners of the globe but recently have found the three of us back in Dunedin. We played at the end of last year and twice this year at the Crown Hotel and are about to record a new album.

Andrew Spittle is the songwriter (on the left) in this video and has an enormous back catalogue of independent releases, and is well overdue recognition as one of New Zealand’s great songwriters.

I’ve played with Piers Graham (drums) in two groups in the 1990s, Age of Dog and Swarm. He also played on my one solo album Plutocracy released in 2004.

The new addition to the group is Jeremy Taylor (known as proprietor of Slowboat Records in Wellington amongst other roles) who is by far the most accomplished and recognized of us all – as a long standing fan of Andrew’s songs (and previous creative collaborator), Jeremy has brought a certain something to the original format.

As always I’m on the bass guitar.

Local videographer Rob Grauwmeijer did a nice job of this video.
